Ketch Us If U Kan
Hello again. We made it to our first “port” in this amazing journey and have left Canada behind for good and spent the morning and early afternoon on Wednesday in Ketchikan, Alaska -- a cute little town obviously thriving off the cruise ship business. We took a tour in the morning called the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary tour. Rainforest because this place gets like 13 feet of rain a year and wildlife because there is some wildlife here – fancy that. It was a nice walking tour with a friendly guide and we saw lots of greenery and native plants, and lots of eagles and huge salmon headed downstream from a hatchery. It was awesome to see trees filled with bald eagles through here. We did catch a quick glimpse of a black bear off in the distance. I got a picture, but it would be too small to see much here. The tour ended with a quick talk from a guy working on a totem pole as you see in the picture below. He’s been working on this pole for several months and will supposedly finish it by this Sunday for a “pole-raising.”
After that tour, we did a tiny bit of shopping in town, but we were shoving off back out to sea by 2:30pm so it wasn’t a real long day on land.

Another nice dinner was had in the evening, followed by a show by a Canadian singer named Lovena Fox. She was actually pretty talented and had quite a voice. It’s really bizarre to watch these shows in a full-fledged theater with a live band, lights, sound, and cushy seats and then to realize you’re watching this while floating in the ocean on a big boat.
Another great day planned for tomorrow (Thursday) -- it will be our most extreme “adventure” day of the week. Check in with us again…

We are waiting for your post about Skagway and Juneau. I am so jealous that you are heading into Glacier Bay--but are happy you get to go there. The pitures from the bridge cam are great. I follow you right along. I know you will enjoy your next two crusie days--they should be really pretty.
Have fun,
Janis
